Quick answer: If GoFullPage stopped working, first open chrome://extensions and check that it is installed and switched on. It was pulled from the Chrome Web Store between August 11 and September 14, 2026, so many people still have a disabled copy. If it is on but fails, the page is usually one Chrome blocks (like the Web Store or a chrome:// page), the shortcut is taken, or the page loads content as you scroll.
GoFullPage is one of the most popular screenshot extensions in Chrome, with around 11 million users. So when it breaks, a lot of people notice at once. This guide walks through every fix that actually solves the problem, in the order you should try them. If none of them work, the last section covers the best ways to take a full-page screenshot without it.
Why GoFullPage stopped working for so many people in 2026
On August 11, 2026, GoFullPage was removed from the Chrome Web Store, and Chrome disabled or removed it in many people’s browsers. Some users saw a warning that the extension might be harmful. According to the developer’s own update, the cause was a copyright complaint about a design element, not a security problem with the extension.
The official extension returned to the Chrome Web Store on September 14, 2026, and a Firefox version launched at the same time (GoFullPage blog). If you never touched it during the outage, it may simply still be switched off.
Fix 1: Re-enable it in chrome://extensions
- Type
chrome://extensionsin the address bar and press Enter. - Find GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture.
- If the toggle is off, turn it on. If you see a message that the extension was disabled, follow the prompt to keep it.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin GoFullPage so the camera icon is visible.
The developer says re-enabling a disabled copy should also bring back your capture history. If Chrome deleted the extension completely, that history is probably gone.
Fix 2: Reinstall only from the official store listing
If the extension is missing, reinstall it from the official Chrome Web Store page. During the outage, several copycat extensions and “GoFullPage download” sites appeared. Avoid them. A fake screenshot extension can read every page you visit, which is the opposite of what you want from a tool that captures your screen.
A quick way to check you have the real one: the official listing is published by GoFullPage, shows millions of users, and has a long review history. A brand-new listing with a similar name and a few hundred users is not it.
Fix 3: Check if you are on a page Chrome won’t let extensions capture
Chrome blocks every extension, not just GoFullPage, from running on certain pages. Clicking the icon on these pages does nothing or shows an error:
- Any
chrome://page, such as Settings, History or the extensions page - The Chrome Web Store itself
- The New Tab page
- Some built-in viewers, such as PDFs opened in Chrome’s PDF viewer
Test it on a normal website, like a news article. If it works there, the extension is fine and the page is the problem. For those pages, use the built-in DevTools method below.
Fix 4: Fix the keyboard shortcut
GoFullPage’s default shortcut is Alt+Shift+P. If another extension or app uses the same keys, nothing happens when you press it.
- Open
chrome://extensions/shortcuts. - Find GoFullPage and click the pencil icon next to its shortcut.
- Press a new combination that nothing else uses, such as Alt+Shift+G.
If clicking the toolbar icon works but the shortcut doesn’t, this is almost always the reason.
Fix 5: Blank areas, missing images or a cut-off page
Many modern sites only load images and sections when you scroll to them. GoFullPage scrolls the page as it captures, but sometimes it moves faster than the site loads. You end up with grey boxes or empty sections.
- Scroll the page to the bottom first, wait a second, scroll back to the top, then capture.
- Close cookie banners and pop-ups before capturing. Sticky banners can repeat down the image or cover content.
- Zoom out with Ctrl and minus (Cmd and minus on Mac) for very long pages. A shorter page means fewer stitching problems.
If only part of the page is captured, the site may scroll inside a box rather than the whole window. Web apps like Gmail, Notion and dashboards often work this way. GoFullPage tries to detect the inner scroll area, but it doesn’t always pick the right one. Our guide on taking a full-page screenshot in Chrome covers this case in more detail.
Fix 6: Very long pages that split or fail
Browsers limit how large a single image can be. On extremely long pages, GoFullPage splits the capture into several images instead of one. That is expected behaviour, not a bug. If you need a single file, export as PDF instead of PNG from the GoFullPage result page, or capture the page in two halves.
Fix 7: Rule out other extensions and browser settings
- Update Chrome. Open
chrome://settings/help, let it update, and click Relaunch. - Test in a clean profile. Ad blockers, dark-mode extensions and other screenshot tools can interfere. Turn them off one at a time and try again.
- Check incognito access. Extensions don’t run in incognito windows unless you allow it. In
chrome://extensions, open GoFullPage’s Details and turn on “Allow in Incognito” if you need it there. - Check if your browser is managed. On a work computer, open
chrome://management. If your organisation controls the browser, it may block extensions, and only your IT team can change that.
Still not working? Take a full-page screenshot without GoFullPage
If you need the screenshot now, these methods work without installing anything new or with a quick alternative.
Chrome DevTools (built in, no extension)
- Open the page and press Ctrl+Shift+I (Cmd+Option+I on Mac) to open DevTools.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac) to open the command menu.
- Type screenshot and choose Capture full size screenshot.
Chrome saves a PNG of the whole page to your Downloads folder. It has no editor, but it is reliable and built into every copy of Chrome. We explain more no-install options in how to take a screenshot in Chrome.
Microsoft Edge Web Capture
If you have Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. It includes a simple pen for markup. GoFullPage’s developer also notes that the Edge version of GoFullPage kept working during the Chrome outage.
A different extension
If GoFullPage keeps failing on the sites you use, a second tool is worth having. The table below compares the common options.
| Tool | Full page | Editor | Blur and redact | Screen recording | Free plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoFullPage | Yes | Premium | No | No | Yes |
| Chrome DevTools | Yes | No | No | No | Built in |
| Edge Web Capture | Yes | Basic pen | No | No | Built in |
| Z-Shot | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Z-Shot is the extension we make, so weigh that accordingly. It captures full pages (Alt+Shift+F), single elements and selected areas, and adds an editor with blur and solid redaction on the free plan. Captures stay in your browser. If you mainly want one-click full-page PNGs and you are happy with GoFullPage when it works, there is no reason to switch. We compare the two in detail in Z-Shot vs GoFullPage.
Quick checklist
- Extension switched on in
chrome://extensions - Installed from the official store listing, not a copy
- Testing on a normal website, not a
chrome://page or the Web Store - Shortcut not shared with another extension
- Page scrolled once before capturing
- Chrome up to date, with other screenshot extensions off
FAQ
Is GoFullPage safe to use now?
The developer says the 2026 removal was over a copyright complaint, not a security issue, and the official extension returned to the Chrome Web Store on September 14, 2026. Install it only from the official listing, not from download sites or similarly named copies.
Why does GoFullPage do nothing when I click it?
Usually because you are on a page Chrome blocks extensions from, such as a chrome:// page, the New Tab page or the Chrome Web Store. Try it on a regular website. If it works there, the extension is fine.
Why is my GoFullPage screenshot cut off or blank in places?
The site probably loads content only as you scroll, or it scrolls inside a box instead of the whole window. Scroll to the bottom and back before capturing, and close pop-ups and cookie banners first.
How do I change the GoFullPage shortcut?
Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts, find GoFullPage, click the pencil icon and press a new key combination. The default is Alt+Shift+P.
Can I take a full-page screenshot in Chrome without an extension?
Yes. Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I, press Ctrl+Shift+P, type screenshot and choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves a PNG of the whole page.
Try it free: Z-Shot captures full pages, records your screen, and blurs or redacts sensitive data right in Chrome. Free plan, no account needed, and nothing is uploaded.
